Nobunaga
Strategic Concepts & Mechanics
Primary Evidence
"Nobunaga must have also considered the following: 1. Deploy border forts near the expected battlefield to disrupt enemy formations and create battle opportunities. 2. Avoid confronting the large enemy force, instead targeting Yoshimoto alone to determine the outcome. For this, establish an espionage network to track Yoshimoto’s movements and prepare stratagems to create opportunities for surprise attacks. 3. Ensure Nobunaga’s intention to sortie is not detected by the enemy’s espionage network. 4. Foster unity within the clan to eradicate enemy stratagems, and resolutely deal with any dissenters. 5. Establish peace with Mino first to avoid being attacked from both great powers, focusing all forces against Imagawa. 6. Boost the morale of the entire army to face the formidable enemy. Advancing recklessly against an enemy ten times your size risks the troops fleeing and the army disappearing. 7. Personally survey the geography of the anticipated battlefield. To ensure enemy spies don’t catch wind of this, roam around in unusual attire while hunting."
"Nobunaga aspired to end the Sengoku period with his mission of ‘Unifying the realm.’ He enjoyed traditional Japanese music and performed the play ‘Atsumori,’ which reflected his view on life and death. Life is seemingly long but really short; one ages before realizing it. It is truly like a dream and an illusion."
"Now, what kind of ‘long-term strategy plan’ did Nobunaga devise? Although it diverts a little from the story of Masayoshi Son, let’s briefly touch on it here.”"
"“Rigidity” signifies that “a true leader sometimes needs to become a demon.” This also fits Nobunaga perfectly."
